Ms. Lizard's Halloween Nail Art Contest 2013

I decided to enter Ms. Lizard's Halloween Nail Art Contest 2013 for my first foray back into my nail art in awhile. I have missed this all so much!!!

I was feeling a bit creatively stumped when I realized I have four very awesome sources of inspiration. My kids!!!

So I had my kids create their own original Halloween artwork which I then recreated it on my nails.

Witch's Hat, Scary Pumpkin, Standing Pumpkin, Hanging Bat.

I used Sinful Colors Citrine as a base. All artwork was done in Cleopatra by Julep.

Accents were done in Glimmer by Sinful Colors, Valerie by Julep, Serena and Chloe by Sinful Colors and Sunset by Sinful Colors Nail Art.

I hope you enjoy!!!
You can view and enjoy the other contestants nails on Ms. Lizard's Facebook page.

World Penguin Day

I love that I am being guested over at My Boyfriend Hates Makeup. Lacey has had a busy few months and at least one more ahead of her. So when she asked for help from her fellow bloggers, I offered to do a few guest blogs to help her out. I am doing one a month from January till May. This is my April guest blog, and today is a World Penguin Day mani.

This is just a sample pic off the full post

February Nail Art Challenge Day 1 - Galaxy Nails

This is my day 1 Galaxy Nails mani for Erica's Nails and More's February 9 Day Nail Art Challenge.

A big part of her challenge is to support her current No Buy by using either untried polishes or ones that haven't been used in awhile. So in support of that all the polishes I used fell into one of those two categories.

I wanted to do something different with this galaxy mani than I have done on my previous ones. Instead of using a dark blue or black base color I used I Love You by Sinful Colors. Which is a beautiful dark purple glitter. This is an untried for me, I have had it for ages and never used it on myself.

I then used a makeup sponge piece to apply Endless Blue to start creating my nebulae. This is another untried color which I love. However you can't really see it in the final results of the mani.

I followed this up with Unicorn by Sinful Colors another I believe untried, if not it hasn't been used in forever. I then did a few spots on the nebulae with Tantalize by Sinful Colors, a recent gift that had yet to be tried.

I then used a nail art brush to dot and draw a few bigger stars on with Tantalize. My last step was to do a very thin coat of Glitter TopCoat by Claire's. This was a Christmas present, (which had not been used yet) from a friend I have had my whole life, how well she knows me!!!

She is very big into science and I wanted to make sure I was using the correct term for what I was attempting to create on my nails. I have provided a link attached to the word nebulae in case you would like to know more about what it means.

I hope you enjoyed this slightly different looking take on galaxy nails!!!
Please take the time to check out the awesome creations from the other lovely ladies participating in this months challenge.

Flip/Flop February Day 2 - Stained Glass / Accent Nail

This is my day 2 mani for Jilltastic Nail Design's Flip/Flop February 28 Day Challenge. The choices for today are Stained Glass or Accent Nail.

I chose to do Stained Glass with a slight accent on my ring finger. As I, up to today have never done a stained glass mani before.

Pardon me for my messy cleanup job on this mani. For some reason the polish got into my skin and no matter what I did I couldn't get it cleaned up.

I used three different Sinful Colors for my "glass" pieces. Again using a pink to keep up with my challenge to myself. To make sure all my manis for this challenge have pink in them.

After placing the dots of color all over my nails I used Black from Nail Art to represent the "lead" lines between the glass. I created a black accent piece of glass at this point. I had a lot of fun with this as I have actually made quite a few stained glass pieces.

My favorite had to be piece of stained glass art I ever worked on had to be finishing a piece that my sister started. It was for her fiance Josh. She died before she was able to complete it, so about six months after she died I finished it for her. He was so surprised when he got it,  he was not even aware she was making it for him. It is based off the Harley Davidson eagle piece that is displayed at Kutter Harley Davison in Janesville, WI. I wish I could find a picture of it, but sadly I can not.

Polishes used:
Glass pieces:  Oasis, Fig and Let' Talk by Sinful Colors
Lead lines: Black from Nail Art

Flip/Flop February Day 1 - Gradient / Skittle

So for Jilltastic Nail Design's Flip/Flop February 28 Day Challenge the two options were Gradient  or Skittles.
I decided to do gradient, mostly because I struggle with it and thought it was a great way to improve.

I also decided as this is a February Challenge I would challenge myself to see if I could use pink in every mani I do, if not as the dominant color I want it to at least be in there somewhere.

I started this mani off by using Rainbow by Chins Glaze as a base color. I love this polish it is a pearlized white with a almost pinkish undertone to it.

I used Oh Cabana Boy by Orly and Shining Heart by Sinful Colors with a fan brush to create my gradient effect. I find for me a fan brush works much better than a makeup sponge in this application.

Once my gradient was in place and sufficiently dried I used two coats of Snowflakes by Color Club over the entire nail. Just because I love the effect created by mylar fleck style glitters.

Polishes used:
Base color: Rainbow by China Glaze
Pinks: Oh Cabana Boy by Orly and Shining Heart by Sinful Colors
Glitter: Snowflakes by Color Club
